CONTOURS OF THE EARTH
The first three works in this gallery have as reference impressions/images of the national park “Chapada Diamantina”, Brazil evoking the inexorable passage of time like an agent that modifies identities or prints new ages. With the latex prints, these works reveal the slow or rapid processes of geologic transformation: information that in a contradictory manner remains on the earth’s surface or within the rocks in the park.
From the geological to the digital, from the grooves in the earth to those in the fingers of the artist, the contrast between the materialism of the latex print and the digital print lets us catch a glimpse of the tensions between presence and absence, what is near and what is in the distance, what is contemporary and what is ancestral. These tensions bring together the elements that displace their geological, anthropological and historical signification.
The reality or the manipulation of these works opens new routes of spacial and temporal connections: if the marks left by the latex could suggest memory traces in the extracts of the earth’s sediments, the digital prints are an open invitation to the discovery of a new road to the past or the future.
Some elements in this works can be found in galleries 2006, 2005 and the digital interactive Book1.
